- Early American Life has recognized
Rhonda's work as "museum quality" and has pictured this box on the
magazine cover of their August 2009 issue.
Reproduction of an
original stencil decorated box c. 1832
- Inside cover: combination
of free hand bronze and stencils .
The steamboat depicted in freehand
bronze powders on the underside of this decorated box lid has streams of smoke
twirling from two stacks. The name "VETO" is emblazoned over the
side paddle wheel and may be a reference to the Bank War that was
dividing the country into factions. The exterior of the box, decorated
with typical bronze powder stenciled motifs of pinecones, strawberries, multi-petaled flowers and leaves, gives no hint of the political
sentiment discreetly hidden inside.
